Chinatown 美食街

牛車水 has a 美食街 which has many nice food. It is a 大排檔 and you can get to taste the different types of 小吃。I ordered a 排骨面 at 史密斯街蝦面。It is quite a generous portion. The soup is nice and meat is tender. But it is still a tourist spot so the price is not cheap.

Omni Theatre 超視覺

I got free tickets to Omni Theatre and so I decided to make a trip down to this 很久都沒去的地方。Omni Theatre is just besides Science Center. It is a special theatre that has a massive hemispheric screen with IMAX projectors. As the screen is very big, certain scenes might make you feel that you are rotated etc.. But sometimes it will also make you giddy! Ha..

迎接 Tiger Year at 牛車水

虎年 is around the corner and one of the 最有過年氣氛 should be Chinatown (牛車水). The lighting is up and all the 吉祥物 are there. It is quite crowded with people 辦年貨 at last minute. So usually I will come to this place to 感受一下 the new year mood. 呵呵﹗

Sentosa 好玩

I have not been to Sentosa for about 4 months since my friend Lock came to Singapore. This time round I step onto Sentosa again as I have a event there. I took a chance to sit the Skyride. When we went up, it is very high and my friends started to scream! They are really 誇張﹗But I do agree that it is very 刺激﹗So Lock, I will bring you there if you come here again. Ha!

Da Vinci The Genius Exhibition 令我嘆為觀止

Science Center 迎進 Da Vinci The Genius exhibition to Singapore and we are the first country in the region to bring in the exhibition directly from Italy. Da Vinci was a renowned renaissance artist, philosopher and scientist etc.. You name it, he was it. Most famous painting should be Mona Lisa and about 25% of the exhibition is on it. used a technique to measure the light reflection from the portrait and they have found that when the portrait was painted 500 years ago, Mona Lisa had six fingers on her left hand. Also of cos there is The Last Supper which is made more famous by the movie The Da Vinci Code. The entrance fee is $15 and it took me 2 hours to finish it. After the exhibition, as usual, I will buy 紀念品﹗呵呵﹗

豐富多彩的 Singapore Science Center

It has been a while since I last visited Science Center. I got a corporate pass and bring my family there for a walk. When I step in, then I realized it is so big. It is separated into many themes and have many wonderful exhibition! Throughout this trip, I re-learn many forgotten science facts and knowledge! 簡直是大開眼界﹗There is a section on nano-nanotechnology which is my field of work. The write up is 深入淺出﹐very good for layman! There is even an updated facts on H1N1! I really enjoy very much. But in order to slowly enjoy all exhibitions, I guess you need to plan at least 1 whole day there.

Villa Bali 情調優美

I have recently found a nice place to chill out. It is Villa Bali located next to former River Valley High. This bar is quite classy and the setting is 有如身在 Bali. But certain cocktails they 調出來 are not that nice. This place 勝在 not crowded and good variety of wine selection. Pricing wise is also reasonable. Good for a group of people to hangout and chat.

有朋從 Kuala Lumpur 來

My internet friend, Lock, has finally set his foot in Singapore. He and his girlfriend came here to relax over the weekend. Lock 生平第一次 came here which I feel it is 不可思議﹗呵呵﹗I went to pick him up at his hotel and took him to Sentosa which I feel is a must visit place.

We had our lunch at the hawker center below Mount Faber. Then we proceed to Vivocity to take a tram into Sentosa. First stop is Underwater World.

Then, we went to another place to see the pink dolphin.

Finally we went up to top of the Merlion and have a bird's eye view of Sentosa.

After touring these few places in Sentosa, it is almost 8pm. Then we took the tram back to Vivocity and bring them to Geylang for dinner before sending them back to hotel. I hope they enjoy the trip to Sentosa.

Surprise! 有朋自遠方來﹗

I have a former classmate, Mr Q, came back from US to visit me. I was pleasantly surprise as he did not inform me before hand. The purpose for him is to attend a job interview in a local university. Mr Q 又聰明又本事﹗So I have full confidence in him.

He has not changed much since he left Singapore about 2 years ago. Does not really aged much and did not get fat either which is surprising. 呵呵﹗

He invited me for a dinner at Raffles Marina Country Club. This place is located quite near to Tuas 2nd link. The eating place is outdoor and has a nice view! 無敵海景﹗It is very windy as well. I ordered a big prawn noodles and the prawns are really huge!

But too bad. This time he 來去匆匆。I did not get a chance to really chat with him. But I heard he will be back soon in Feb for another job interview. Mr Q, this time 你絕對跑不了﹗

Orchard Road 開放日

Orchard Road was very heavy with traffic last weekend. But it is flooded with not the usual kind of traffic but with human traffic. It is closed for traffic and let people wander around on the road.

The closure of road is for the celebration of 聖誕節。There are many activities around such as dances, parade and singing.

The most interesting part I would say is the mass social dance. This attracts many passersby and they can also join in the fun. But most of them are senior citizens and many dance very well. 不要小看他們喔﹗

夜裡的 Henderson Waves

本來 wanted to walk a 9km track from Mount Faber Park till Kent Ridge Park. But 天不做美。It started raining since wee morning and rain until into evening. 聯綿細雨澆熄了我的興致。唉﹗So I end up walking around at the nearby VivoCity shopping mall and have a nice dinner at Hog's Breath Cafe.

After the food, I decided to send my girlfriend home at about 10pm. But on the way, I still 不死心 as the rain has stopped. So I suggest to check out at least the Henderson Waves. It is supposed to be the tallest pedestrian bridge in Singapore. 文案 stated:
  • At 36 metres above Henderson Road, Henderson Waves is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore. It was built to connect the two hills of Mount Faber and Telok Blangah Hill.
  • The bridge has a unique wave-form made up of seven undulating curved steel “ribs” that alternately rise over and under its deck. The curved “ribs” form alcoves that function as shelters with seats within.
  • Slats of yellow balau wood, an all-weather timber found in South-East Asia, are used in the decking. Look out for carvings on the slats marking the height you are at on various points along the bridge.
  • The wave-forms will be lit with attractive LED light from 7pm to 2am daily, giving the bridge an illuminative glow.
When we reached there, it is very quiet and dark. My girlfriend was very scared and resisted going there. The walkway to Henderson Waves indeed is a bit 陰森﹗Walking a bit of uphill slope, we finally reached the starting point of Henderson Waves. 夜裡的 Henderson Waves 有另一番風味。Windy and romantic. There are many couples on the bridge 談情說愛。呵呵。Though it is 300m long, we only managed to walk about 150m and walked back. But rest assure, I will be back to "征服" the 9km walk! In the morning of cos!

獅城盡收眼帘 at Equinox

很久沒去 Singapore tallest hotel 飲 high tea 了。The last time I remember having high tea at this place is about 10 years ago (though I came a few times for dinner for the past few years)! This time "舊地重游" but both the restaurant and hotel name have changed. Previously the hotel is known as Westin Stamford Hotel and now it changes to Swissotel The Stamford. The restaurant located at level 70 also has 改名為 Equinox (formerly is Compass Rose).

This time round is my brother who suggested to come here for afternoon high tea. He said he treats so of cos there is no reason for me to 拒絕他。呵呵﹗He has the Feed at Raffles card which pay 3 for 4 people kind of deal.

We reached at about 3pm but it opens for business at only 3.30pm. Although it is a weekday afternoon, there are many people! Where is the 經濟危機? So when it is about 3.30pm, everyone queue up at the lift to get to the restaurant. When I reached the top, my family and I were ushered to a window seat. The view is very nice on top. This time round there are a few additional spots which previously I did not get to see like Singapore Flyer, the floating stage and Marina City Park. 在新建中的賭場 is not far away too.

The high tea has a wide variety of food but nothing to scream about. It is mostly eastern and less on the western style. Like prawn noodles soup, sushi, fried rice, chicken wings etc... It also has pastries, spaghetti, fondue, pan cakes etc.. So overall, the food is nothing special but your 食慾 increases with the nice view of Singapore. You feel like you are on top of the world! Maybe partly is I no need to pay a single cent. I dunno how much it costs but I think should be about $40++ per pax.

Chinese Garden (裕华园)

Today I went to Chinese Garden to see the lanterns there. This is a once a year event. During normal day, Chinese Garden is quite quiet. Seldom people will go there as there is nothing much to see. But on Mid Autumn festival, it is quite different. The whole place will be lighted with many kinds of lanterns and bustling with activities. The entrance fee is $15 which I feel a bit steep. The queue for buying entrance tickets is quite long but moving rather fast. This year theme is mainly on Hello Kitty and Japanese animation characters but with many different themes. There are also a short fireworks about 30 sec. In order to cover the whole park, you need to plan for 3 hours.
