Ice Cream

Today got a new colleague got her first pay in her life. So she decided to give us a treat. So we ordered ice cream in the canteen. The ice cream costs $2.50 and it is really a big bowl! The ice cream is not the same as usual one which is one big scoop. Instead, it is slice into fine thin layers and for a while, it looks like cabbage! You can order different fruits topping an I order kiwi. It is quite value for money.

Comex 2008

Just came back from Comex 2008. Nearly no time to go. Any way, I got nothing in mind and company my friend to go. This time I think the crowd management is slightly better. I did not trapped in any human jams. There are more walking space. This time round not many things got my attention. Just saw some nice gadgets I might be buying in next show. Like BlueAnt Supertooth 3. This bluetooth handset looks good. Nothing to stick into you ears and it is voice recognition. But too bad did not ask for the price as my friend walked quite fast. But I suspect the price should be in $150 region. Walked 2 levels and finally bought a mobile TV set holder for my car. Haha.

Great service from Kinokuniya

Today I went to Orchard Kinokuniya. I usually wun frequent book stores as I feel the books there are expensive. I was browsing around and saw this nice service provided by Kinokuniya. Ok, I might a bit mountain turtle. There is this computer station which allows you to search for books that is in stock in the book stores and you can print out the map that points you to the right direction!! This is great!

Singapore Flyer

There is a guest in town lately. He is a professor from Harvard which I invite to our company for a talk. As a host, I bring him to some places of interests as this is the first time he is here. So I brought him to Singapore Flyer. This ferry wheel is currently the largest in the world surpassing London Eye and stands at 165m. It costs $29.50 and will take about 30 mins for one round. So it is average $1 per minute. After the ride, I feel it is ok only. Maybe should visit at night where it is cooler and have a beautiful view. Or wait for the casino to be ready and the view should be more spectacular.

Burn midnight oil

Today I have a huge presentation. I need to present in front of my company. The notice came quite late. Only 2 weeks. You might think 2 weeks? A lot of time what! But this time, the presentation needs to have a lot of market info and reports which are very difficult to come by. Any way, I worked till 1am every night just for the collection of info and data mine those info into useful data. Dun even have time to blog. But it is worth cos today everything went very smoothly!! Hee... Finally can sleep early tonight.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

I just came back from watching The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. I feel this show is not as nice the previous two. The new wife lacks of chemistry with the lead male. The son is a bit too old to call them father and mother. Very not suitable. Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh have only a little bit of screen time. Mainly at the starting and ending. The Shanghai part also not realistic. Too modern. Looks like this era. The special effects a bit too computer for the monsters. Overall, only one word: disappointing.

The X Files: I Want To Believe

I just back from watching The X Files: I Want to Believe. I seldom watch the TV series so dunno what the whole series talk about. But roughly I know it is about Aliens. Overall, I feel that this show is ok only. This time round there are no aliens which I feel a bit sian and this movie actually got some ending. Haha. Mulder and Scully still looks good. Although many talking, I feel not boring but story not as exciting and not so mystery.

Unique seafood

My family and I went to old race course at Bukit Timah for dinner. This is to celebrate my brother's birthday. We went to Unique seafood which is quite famous. At first, I tot Unique Seafood is a restaurant. But later found out that it is just a seafood market but supply some seafood to the restaurants on the same level. So we end up in Owen Restaurant for our dinner. It is quite crowded for a weekday night. We order a 8 dish course and one Alaska crab. The 8 dishes are from the restaurant and the crab is bought from Unique. Overall, the food are quite nice and service quite good lah.

Oyster Omelette (蚝煎)

Today I am craving for Oyster Omelette (蚝煎). The reason is that yesterday I watched a show talking about oyster omelette by Kym Ng. This made me suddenly feel like eating oyster omelette. Haha. I also long time did not eat that is why I have a sudden craving for it. Finally, I have it for lunch and satisfied my desire. Ha..

霸王餐

Today I went to canteen for lunch and buy chicken rice. My friend did the ordering and I just stand one side and take some soup from the container besides the store. So after the food is ready, we left the stall. Then, the store owner keep shouting for us. Then, I ask my friend:"Have you paid?" Then he replied"Forget." Then, I went back to pay up. But guess what? The store owner said sorry to us! Haha. Weird. Any way, I feel quite malu but it is my friend fault so he more malu. Haha.

Red Cliff 1 (赤壁1)

I just came back from watching Red Cliff 1 (赤壁1). After reading reviews and strongly recommended by my friends who watch it, I raise my hope high before watching. However, after watching it, I feel it is only so so for part 1. Maybe it is because I did not read the book before. So I dun really get to enjoy. There are many talking and have a few occasional jokes. The war scenes looks nice but the fighting and killing all looks too familiar which can be found in other shows. I like Cao Cao (Zhang Fengyi) and Sun Shang Xiang (Zhao Wei) the best. The acting is more natural. The rest are so so and worst is Sun Quan (Zhang Zheng) . Overall, I feel the show is more on the boring side. I hope Part 2 will be better.

The Regent Hotel

Today my company has an event at the Regent Hotel. I was assigned to the help out at the reception counter. The registration went on very smoothly and finally my job is done by 8pm when the event started. So the rest of the time is to sit back and relax and enjoy my 8 course dinner. Haha!!

Woodbridge Hospital

Today I went to Woodbridge Hospital (IMH) for an event. This is the first time I went there and the place is not quite I imagine. The place is quite quiet and got a food court. In fact, it is just like any other hospital. Best of the all, the car park is free. Haha...

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

I just caught Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. I feel it is quite nice though many might disagree. This time round it has many creatures and actions. However, I feel there are still certain parts need a bit of improving. Like the angel of death, it is very obvious that it is recycled from Pan Labyrinth. Though the final showdown is not bad but I feel more it is more like kung fu fighting. Not very mystical. Ha..

Hancock

I just came back from watching Hancock. I feel not really that nice. The story plot I feel nothing much. I feel it can be better. The villains in the show is far too weak. So overall, this show does not live up to my expectation. It is not as fantastic as I tot it would be. One good thing is that Charlize Theron acts in this show and she looks good.

Reunion Dinner

Today I attended my secondary school 45th reunion dinner. It is a rather last minute decision as my brother who is also from the same school told me he got an extra ticket. So dun waste loh. This is a rather huge event as I think got more than 100 tables. Really can say it is a 1000 people dinner. The guest of honour is Minister for Finance, Tharman Shanmugaratnam. The caterer who did this dinner is quite lousy. Food not nice and service bad. Hope the next one would be better.

Lazy Susan

Lately I attended a meeting and learn a new word. Do you know what is Lazy Susan? I have asked many people and only about 20% of those I asked know what is it. Impressive. Ok, Lazy Susan is the revolving server mostly found on the table in Chinese restaurant. So did you got it correctly? If you did, good for you!

The Incredible Hulk

I just came back from watching The Incredible Hulk. It got nothing to do with Lee Ang's version. Actually I dun really feel it is better or worse than Lee Ang's version. Both got pros and cons. The Hulk still looks very CG. But their other special effects are not bad. But I feel the story a bit slow as there are many talking. It only becomes nicer when the male lead becomes Hulk and starts destroying things. Overall, still not too bad.

Starhub points expired

Today I just realized that my Starhub points expired yesterday. It is quite a lot of points so I called up Starhub and asked if they can give me back my points. Usually if credit card points, banks will give them back to you. But the guy I talked to initially dun want to give back my points and tell me many things I already know. So I said:"So there IS NO WAY I can get back my points?". The guy keep silence for a while and said:"I can give it back half of the points." So in the end I accept cos actually they can dun give one mah. Haha. Any way, the moral of the story is keep track your points!

Hong Kong relatives

I got some relatives living in Hong Kong and recently they flew over to pay us a visit. There are 13 of them. Yes. It is a big family. Many of my aunties and uncles went to airport to welcome them. For the past 4-6 days, they visited many places which I did not even went before. Like the Singapore Flyer and Ducktour. Hmm... I think it is time for me to try them out. Haha.. We have a big dinner gathering on Sat and Sun. I only manage to talked to them on this two nights. Other than that, I did not get a chance to talk to them. Hope that we can meet up soon either here or in Hong Kong again! Hee...

Today there is an event in my company. There are suppose to have 3 ppl to take charge. One is me plus another 2 more people. Who knows one of them MC for 1 week! Then another has to attend another event. So suddenly I become one man show. I run up and down, left and right. MC is me, tour guide is me, everything is me. Really superman. Lucky I think everything went smoothly with some minor hiccups. Yeah!!!

The PC Show 2008 Part 2

Yes. I went down to The PC Show again. Haha. After the purchase yesterday, I feel like spending a bit more money (as if) and went down again. Any way, yesterday was a bit too rush. It is more like a grab and go trip. I did not really explore fully the show. So this time I wanted to slowly see what are the latest products there. My friend's sister also wanted to get more things too. So I company them loh. This time round I feel the main buying frenzy is on LCD TV and AIO printer. The price of the LCD TV really down quite a lot. 32" LCD TV can go for less than $700! Really quite a good buy. Also this time round many brands also showcase their UMPC - Ultra Mobile PC. There are two kinds. One is laptop based and the screen goes down to like 8" or so. Another kind is PC based but all processor are built behind the screen and the design is quite sleek. I am actually eyeing on one of these PC. However, now is still not the time to go in as the specs are still quite lousy and price still too high. Next show is Comex at early Sept. Still got 3 months to store up ammo.

The PC Show 2008 Part 1

I just came back from The PC Show 2008. As usual, the parking is very scary at the carparks surrounding Suntec City. So my friend and I park at a slightly further carpark. It is about 10 mins walk to Suntec City. It is better than wasting time hunting for a lot nearby. The show got many people. But when inside the hall, I feel quite ok. Not that packed.

Carpark full around PC Show venue

Crowds at PC Show

One of the things we got is a digital camera from Panasonic. It is Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX520. It is their very latest product. I have read many reviews and they give quite a good feedback. That is why I know what to get when I reach there. Business must be very competitive as the sales guy offer to throw in another battery. So I feel ok lah since I wanted 2 all along. Haha! So I bought this. All this takes me less than 10 mins. After that my friend and I went walk walk some more and then bought a few more goodies. Not bad. This time round saw many nice items and fuel my next buying interest. Oh no!!!!

Kung Fu Panda

I just came back from watching Kung Fu Panda. This is quite an interesting animation. This show is about 1.5 hours long. The drawing is nice and the show is quite funny. However, the story line is very typically. Bad guy comes back to take revenge and the chosen one has to deal with it. Though the story plot is simple, it is watchable. I wonder why the snake and tiger are female in the show. It is because of the chinese saying "最毒妇人心" and "母老虎"? Haha! So make a guess who is the voice over for these two characters? Maybe you feel they are well chosen? Any way, remember to stay back after the credit roll cos there is a short clip after it.

Executive Cafe

Today is the last day of my student attachment. So I decided to give her a treat as appreciation. My colleagues and I plus her went to the latest opening restaurant in NTU called Executive Cafe. It is very empty inside though lunch time. I guess as much cos most people wun spend this kind of money during lunch unless they have a good reason. We ordered a 8 dish set and plus drinks etc.. for about $150. It has roast meat, soup, prawns, cot fish etc.. I feel the portion of the food is generous and fast. Staffs are attentive and friendly as well. Best of all is there are no service charge and GST!! So I think it is good to give people a treat here. Haha!

Scratched shoe

Today I accidentally scratched my working shoe! My shoe is less than 1 month old only!!! So heartache. I just alighted from my car at my office. Then dunno how on earth I kick onto something and left a permanent scar at the tip of my shoe! So careless. Sigh.......

Nike iPod workout kit

I just came back from my night jog. Today I try out a new gadget - Nike iPod workout kit. It consists a sensor and a sort of plug in. Just plugin to the iPod and put the sensor in your sneakers. So you can set whatever calories you intend to burn and it will beep you when it is reaching the target. When you finished your workout, it will tell you how long you have run and how many calories you have burned. I am a bit of skeptic though cos I ran about 3km and it told me I burn 250 calories!! A bit too much I feel. Dunno how it calculates one. Any way, just in case you are wondering how much the set cost, let me break it down for you.

Nike Armband - $55
Sensor holder - $21
Nike Sensor and Plugin - $55

张信哲逃生 Jeff Chang Escape

Now listening to Jeff Chang (张信哲) latest album Escape (逃生). This album is so hard to get. It is released in late April but I could not find it in many stores ranging from Causeway Point to IMM to West Mall to Ang Mo Kio Hub to VivoCity! I wonder if it is too hot selling until no stocks or not hot selling and limited stocks. Haha. Whatever the case, I finally found it in Junction 8. I bought it at Sembawang Music Center. It has a promotion of $3 off min $30 spent using Citibank credit card. So in the end, I combine with one more cd and this album costs me $17.40.

After listening one time, it sounds better than his previous album. His last few albums with Sony Music are quite bad. This time is with Ocean Butterflies and again he ditched those sure hit songs to try out different type of music. My most favourite song would be track 3 牡丹忧 (A Mother's Worries). It combines Beijing opera with a bit of mid-fast tune. Fantastic try! My other recommendation are track 5 小木马 (Little Rocking Horse) and 7 牧羊人 (Shepherd).

Tracks:
1 残念 (Too Bad)
2 逃生 (Escape)
3 牡丹忧 (A Mother's Worries)
4 可爱美眉 (Hot Chick)
5 小木马 (Little Rocking Horse)
6 最好的时光 (Best Days)
7 牧羊人 (Shepherd)
8 单车与跑车 (Bike or Wheels)
9 长途旅行 (A Long Journey)
10 天使的眼泪 (An Angel Cries)

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian

I just came back from watching The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian. This movie is about 2.5 hours long and I feel like watching Lord of the Rings. Besides the long hours that is similar to LOTR, there are so many scenes I feel quite similar to LOTR. Like the starting horse chasing scenes across the grassland, the fierce current that destroy enemies riding horses and trees that come alive and destroy armies etc.. The first half of the movie is slightly draggy as it is mostly talking. Only until halfway, the story picks up with action. The final showdown is also not as grand as I expected. But the special effects are good.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I just came back from watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Harrison Ford once again reprise the role of Indiana Jones but this time looks much older. The whole movie wins on the special effects, the humour, the acting and the flow of the movie. But the story plot I feel is rather empty. The ending is rather lame I feel. Cate Blanchett leaves me with quite a good impression with her nice acting. Overall, it is quite nice just that dun expect anything fantastic ending.

K Box

I just came back from K Box. It has been a long time since I last sang at karaoke. This time I went to the outlet at Jurong Entertainment Center. Saturday rates is about $30 per person. This includes 4 hours singing + free flow of peanuts + 2 drinks per person. I sing many songs! Jay Chou, Jeff Chang, Nicholas Chang etc... Also songs from Jolin Tsai, Zhang Huimei Stefanie Sun. I really sing until no voice. Haha! Really enjoy myself tonight!

The Chevrons

Today I have a seminar at The Chevrons. This place is a club house off Jurong East which is opposite the International Business Park. I think it is formally called SAF Warrant Officers & Specialists Club. Any way, this is the first time there and I find that there are many nice facilities. I should check it out soon!

Ramen Ramen

I just went to Railway mail at Bukit Timah. There is this Japanese restaurant tucked away in a small corner call Ramen Ramen. I was craving for Ramen and tot of this place. I order a cheese ramen as I am a cheese lover. The ramen comes quite fast but I feel it is a bit cheesy (no pun intended) that the cheese is actually a piece of kraft thrown in. I do not know if the soup based is made of "special made" cheese or not. The soup tastes milky so I feel that maybe the kraft is just for show. Overall, it tastes nice. The service is good cos there are not many people and so the staffs are attentive towards you.

East Coast Park

Today I went to East Coast Park for a bicycle ride. It has been some time I visited this place. When I reached there, it was so packed! There are so many people and not to mention about cars! Luckily there are many empty lots near the chalet. I bring my own bicycle there so I can save on rental. Haha. I cycled from Area A to Area F. On the way, I saw the new Big Splash where there are now many shops and activities. I also passed by McDonald's area where all the main hype are. A few km down is the Bedok Jetty where many people are fishing. Besides the seafood center, there is this cable ski pool which looks fun! Then, there is this Bougainvillea Garden where there is a restaurant there I think called Sunset Bay. It is an isolated place but packed with people. East Coast Park is a nice place to relax on a non-working except it is way too crowded.

Tangs sales

Just came back from Tangs private sales. If you have Citibank credit card, you can get into Tangs departmental stall. The sale are great. Saw a few things that are going for 50% off or more. I bought a nice shirt for my work. After discount, it becomes about $88. Actually, there are more nice stuffs but just that the fitting room is long queue. So I just grab and go.

Mother's Day

Today is Mother's Day and we went out for a meal to celebrate this day. But as usual we like to play with luck and never make any reservation. So we wonder around until we landed at Beer Garden restaurant in Tahan Jurong besides the Jurong Park. Though there are quite a number of people, we did get a table. We ordered quite a lot of food - Chili crabs, cereal prawns, vegetables, meat etc.. 6 of us ate for around $140. I think it is quite affordable and the food is rather nice too.

iPod Nano

Today I start to use my iPod Nano which is a gift from someone. I took it out from the casing and first impression is it looks sleek! But other than that I begin to feel a bit disappointed. Firstly, the manual instruction to operate the player is very limited. Then, you have to charge it through computer. Lastly, it did not even tell you how to upload the songs. It makes the whole experience very unfriendly for those who use it for the very first time. Luckily, I managed to settle all issues in 10 mins time. So still not so bad.

Iron Man

I just came back from watching the movie Iron Man. I feel it is quite a nice show. This show is more lighten up as compared to many superhero movies. The lead actor cracks jokes and is more "human". The most worthy of this show is the special effects. It makes the whole movie looks extremely high tech and Iron Man looks cool! Remember to stay back after the credit rolls. Got a very short scene that follow after that.

Ikea sales

I just came back from Ikea sale. There are a few things I wanted to buy a long time but keep putting off due to no time. But this time I decided to make a trip down. I meet a friend at Ikea Tampines there as she has a cousin who works there and can get us some staff discount. After walking one big round, I grab all my stuffs I wanted to buy except a few out of stocks. After paying up, I got a free dessert - Semla. It is basically a bun with whip cream. Not bad but fattening. Haha!

Magma

Today we got a visitor from Hong Kong. He came over to our company to give us a talk. In the evening, my boss wanted to give him a treat and asked me along. Initially, we wanted to go to East Coast seafood center but our visitor said he has a run last night and scare his stomach cannot endure seafood. So in the end, we went to a German restaurant called Magma. It is located quite near to Outram. We ordered quite a lot of dishes but I feel many are not up to my taste. I ordered a pumpkin soup. I feel it is not as nice as I have drunk somewhere else. Then, we ordered and shared a sausage platter. This dish luckily tastes nice. After that I ordered a pork knuckles. The meat is nice but the roasted skin tastes too much like charcoal.

Here comes the funny part. My boss has been to this restaurant before and ate a very nice dessert. But he dun know the name. So he described to the waiter and the waiter points to the menu for his dessert. But when it comes, it is not what my boss wanted. After a few questions, my boss found out that this special dessert could not be found in the menu and only one German chef there knows how to make it! So in the end, we did not get to eat this. My boss swears to eat it the next time round. Haa!!

Hot weather!

Lately the weather becomes very hot!! Every night I must switch on air con then can sleep! I think temperature goes above 30 degrees Celsius!!!!!

Green Banyan

Today my boss treats us lunch at Jurong Country Club. The reason is that he is promoted! So this calls for a celebration and I made a booking at the restaurant called Green Banyan. There is this lunch set which cost about $30 per person which consists of a main course and free flow of tea, soup, dessert, bread and salads! I personally love soups a lot and I drank 3 bowls! Haha. I ordered a sausage platter which I feel is not bad. But my friend ordered lamp chop which looks even more delicious. I feel the money is quite well spent cos the food amount is ample and tastes great.

NUS Club

I just received an invitation letter from NUS to join their club. I feel weird as I am not from that school. So I wonder how they got my particulars. Any way, the joining fee I think is about $3k. Since I am not once their students, so I feel quite pointless for me to join.

Sunday, April 20, 2008

Jumbo

I just back from a treat. Someone having birthday and so I was invited to Jumbo at East Coast Park for dinner. As usual, we order chilli and pepper crabs. These are the must order food since it is one of the most famous dish in Singapore. Then we ordered some vegetables, lobsters and noodles. Overall, the food is quite nice expect it is not that "jumbo" as I tot especially the chili crabs. We ordered 2 crabs and when they served, the portion looks small. Maybe it is the plate. Haha. It is not as generous as No Signature when I went about 1 months+ ago. So I think I will choose No Signature for the generous good food.

The Forbidden Kingdom

I just back from watch The Forbidden Kingdom by Jet Li and Jackie Chan. The highlight of this movie is the fight between these two action stars. The 10+ mins duel is quite nice. There are some jokes and the english pronunciation are not bad especially Liu Yifei and Li Bingbing. The special effects are nice but not tip top kind. But the story plot is way off. It is a twisted plot of Journey to the West legend where monkey god has to be freed. Haha. But the let down is that the ultimate bad guy is not powerful enough. This is the disappointing part and makes the ending too simple. But overall, this movie is still watchable.
